The song Silent Night is one of the world’s favorite Christmas songs. It depicts a peace and stillness in our lives that we all are looking and longing for. The image is of the baby Jesus asleep at night without a care in the world and fully and completely at peace. It is about the wonder of that moment and what it must have been like in that manger. The song is not just a beautiful melody, but in my opinion, is about the inspired words that were penned by Frank Xaver Gruber in 1818. It is a song that also tells the story of how you are God’s child and how he wants that kind of peace for you and me. He wants our trust in all things, and he wants us to cast our worries to him. He wants us to sleep in heavenly peace, without strife, stress and cares of this world. He wants us to truly trust in him.
It might be worth reading these 1818 lyrics again this holiday season.
Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Jesus, Lord at thy birth.
Silent night, Holy night
Shepherds quake, at the sight
Glories stream from heaven above
Heavenly, hosts sing Hallelujah.
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born.
I trust your Christmas is at peace and with joy. KT
I think you already know that Silent Night is my all time favorite Christmas Song and I love singing it with you. Love you brother.
